Classroom:Hammonds is a two-time Academic All-ACC selection. He carries a double major in architecture and psychology. He maintains a 3.1 cumulative grade point average in one of the toughest majors at Clemson. He is attempting to become the first scholarship men's basketball player on record at Clemson to earn a degree in architecture. He is on course to graduate in May of 2008.
Character:Hammonds is one of the most responsible young men to come through Clemson's basketball program in quite some time. He is reliable with the media, in that he always shows up to answer questions following tough games, win or lose. He is a two-time captain and leader by example to his teammates. In a preseason survey of the players on the 2007-08 roster, players were ask to write in who the most respected player on the team was. Hammonds received 12 of the possible 14 votes. In addition to his on-court actions, he is married to his high school girlfriend and they are raising a son together. It is amazing he has time for such a life as a student-athlete in a difficult academic program and a high-profile collegiate sport. Hammonds also spent time in Taiwan over the summer of 2007 playing basketball with Athletes in Action and spreading ministry to less fortunate people in that area.
Competition:Hammonds has started all but one game in three years at Clemson and has averaged double figures in scoring each of his three seasons. He ranked second in the ACC last year in assist-to-turnover ratio and ranks among the top 10 in school history in steals, assists, assist-to-turnover ratio, and three-point goals made. He plays the most minutes on the team each year and rarely shows fatigue. He has led the Tigers to three postseason appearances and improvement in overall and league record since has has been at Clemson.
