Classroom:Butch graduated last May with a bachelor's degree in life sciences communication. He is currently taking graduate classes.
Character:Butch suffered a gruesome elbow injury last year that caused him to miss the final six games of the season. He is back and healthy to start this season as a fifth-year senior. During his redshirt freshman season, he learned that his mother had breast cancer. She underwent treatment that year and the cancer is in remission.
Competition:A former McDonald's All-American, Butch has started 59 games in his career. He has led Wisconsin in rebounding in each of the last two seasons and was the team's third-leading scorer each of those years. Last year he averaged 8.8 points and 5.9 rebounds and was named honorable mention All-Big Ten by the league's coaches. He begins the season just 331 points way from 1,000 for his career.
