Classroom:Jackson was named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll form 2005-2006 for maintaining an overall grade point average of 3.00 or above. She is a senior psychology major with a health minor.
Character:Jackson is an optimistic, generous and compassionate leader. She is currently guiding her 7 new teammates through their first semester at the University of Houston and is the first one to arrive at study table. She is well-known and well-liked among the faculty and the University of Houston women's basketball fan base. The team was plagued with injuries last season - Jackson included - but she returned to the court and led her teammates through an extremely difficult season, both physically and emotionally. She encouraged her teammates constantly - there were only 7 players physically and academically available - and played every game as if she were competing for a championship. She missed the season's first six games due to a knee injury but was able to return only 20 days after undergoing surgery. She played the rest of the season in considerable pain and had to have her knee drained on a weekly basis to enable her to play.
Competition:Jackson has been a player to watch since high school. She was 2004 Texas Miss Basketball and the Texas Class 5A Player of the Year as a senior. She is a two-time first-team All-Conference USA selection (2006, 2007) and was named the 2007 C-USA Preseason Player of the Year. She is the fourth-leading returning scorer nationally, after averaging 22.5 ppg in 2007. In a C-USA Tournament game against Marshall on March 1, 2006, Jackson scored 43 points, setting a C-USA Tournament record and tying the UH school record. That performance was tied for the second-best single-game effort last season. She also set school and league records with her 18 made free throws in that game. In 2007, Jackson was the only C-USA player to rank in the top 15 statistically in scoring average, rebounding average, steals per game and assists per game. Jackson was named to the preseason watch lists for both the Naismith Trophy and John R. Wooden Women's Award in 2006. She earned an invitation to U.S. National Team tryouts in both 2006 and 2007, the only C-USA player to earn that honor.
