Classroom:Whorton is a Rhodes Scholar candidate, compiling a 4.0 grade point average with a double major of education and English. She is a two-time first team Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete in women's basketball and was named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American District VII team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Character:After injuries claimed as many as three starters, Whorton's leadership helped rally the underdog and undermanned Drake women's basketball team to a Cinderella finish in 2006-07. The Bulldogs won four games in four days to capture the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship, earning the team a berth in the NCAA tournament where it faced No. 1 seed and eventual national champion Tennessee. For her efforts, Whorton was named the outstanding player in the 2007 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
