Classroom:Enright is a Spanish language major on the environmental engineering track at West Point. She is expected to graduate in May 2008. After completing her five years of active duty in the Army, branching Air Defense Artillery (ADA), Enright wants to pursue a career in teaching, specifically English as a second language. Enright is one of 4,400 cadets attending the United States Military Academy and will be commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation in May. There are approximately 12,000 applications each year for less than 1,200 cadet vacancies.
Character:Enright was deeply impacted by the sudden passing of her former head coach, Maggie Dixon, less than a month after Enright and the Black Knights captured their first Patriot League Championship March 8, 2006. Dixon collapsed and died of a heart arrhythmia. Enright and the Black Knights were the recipient of the ‘V’ Foundation Comeback Award in May and also received recognition at the 2007 AT&T National Sportsmanship Awards in St. Louis, Mo., for their courage and perseverance throughout the 2006-07 season. Head coach Dave Magarity said of Enright, “Cara is one of those rare student-athletes that perform at the highest level and never exhibits any selfishness. Even after receiving the highest possible accolades in her sport, she continues to lead by example and always defers any praise or attention to her teammates.”
Community:Enright has visited local schools in the Hudson Valley with the basketball team, promoting reading and good sportsmanship. She has also been active in the Special Olympics in the past three years, running the Adaptive site competitions. In addition, Enright visited the VA hospital last Thanksgiving to serve food to the veterans.
Competition:Enright has led the Black Knights in scoring in each of her three seasons at West Point. She is just three points away from becoming the fourth all-time leading scorer in school history, sitting on 1,329 points heading into the season-opener. The Norco, Calif., native has played in 89 career games with 79 starts and has a career average of 14.9 points per game, which is second in Army history. Enright earned the 2004 Rookie of the Year and 2005 Player of the Year plaudits in the Patriot League. Enright is a two-time All-Patriot League first team selection (2006, 2007) after being named to the second team in 2005. She was named the Patriot League Tournament MVP after leading Army to its first conference title in 2005-06 and first ever berth in the NCAA Division I Tournament. Enright has been honored as a first team All-Metropolitan New York member in each of the last two seasons. She stands second all-time with 133 career three-pointers and holds the Academy single-game record with six against Lehigh in 2006. She appears all over the Army career record books, including scoring average (2nd; 14.9), field goals made (7th; 484), field goals attempted (8th, 1,071), field goal percentage (15th; .452), free throws made (6th; 228), free throws attempted (9th, 321), free throw percentage (15th; .710), rebounds (21st; 430) and three-point field goals (2nd; 133). Enright has collected seven double-doubles (points, rebounds) and scored at least 20 points in 24 career games.
