Classroom:Nelson has a cumulative 3.51 GPA and will earn his degree in business in December 2007. He will begin work on a second degree in the spring of 2008. Nelson has finished every semester of his Boise State academic career with over a 3.5 grade point average. He is a two-time member of Boise State's Dean's List and earned Western Athletic Confernece All-Academic honors in 2007 as well as being named a Boise State Athletics Scholar Athlete in 2007. As a junior, he was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 Team.
Character:Nelson is a hard worker, as his work in the classroom and on the basketball court prove. As a junior, he earned Boise State's "Hard Hat Award." In addition to the time he spends on his studies, Nelson has been involved in a number of community service projects at Boise State.
Community:Nelson has participated or volunteered in Saddle Up for Scholarships (Boise State's Athletics Scholarship Drive), Little Bronco Camp (Rocky Mountain Fitness), Lift Up America, National Student Athlete Day honoring Special Olympics, National Walk to School Day and Make-A-Wish (Serving Up Wishes) during his two-plus seasons at Boise State.
Competition:Nelson is in his fourth year as a starter. He played his first two seasons at Eastern Washington before transferring to Boise State. Nelson has 912 career points and 598 career rebounds, an average of 10.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He has started 75 of his 88 career games, scored in double figures 48 times, grabbed double-digit rebounds 21 times and had 15 double-doubles. Nelson is a preseason second-team All-WAC selection by the league's media. As a junior he earned a spot on the WAC All-Newcomer Team. As a freshman he was the Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year and led his team to a Big Sky Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth.
