Classroom:Randal Falker is a senior studying Art with a communication design specialization in the college of liberal arts. This past year he was honored as a Saluki Scholar for earning a 3.00 or higher GPA during the previous academic year. Instructors raved about having Randal in their courses. He is a always a part of class discussions and performs well on tests and other coursework.
Character:Falker is an artistic young man. He is an avid cyclist, enjoys hiking, and art design. He knows when to be serious but he also has a great sense of humor. He is passionate about the youth of southern Illinois. Randal has a strong work ethic and has developed not only as a basketball player, but a person. On the court , he is intense and known for his toughness but what some people do not see is his personality, which is accompanied with attributes that really define who he is.
Community:Falker has participated in several community service activities including the MVC/ State Farm Just Read program where he read to students at several elementary schools and talked about the importance of reading to further their education. He helped at the Parrish School Pumpkin festival and played games with children and their families. Falker also participated in last year’s Christmas activity called Santa’s shoeboxes. This program involved SIU student-athletes collected shoeboxes, filled them with gifts, and had a Christmas party for 170 children who attend SIU Head Start. Each child was provided with a shoebox full of gifts. Falker is a busy student-athlete but takes time out to help the southern Illinois community.
Competition:Falker is a pre-season Wooden Award watch list candidate. Presently, he is the team’s leading scorer at 17.0 ppg, and rebounder at 6.8 rpg. He was named to the all-tournament team at the Anaheim Classic in November. Falker is shooting 81.3 percent from the FT line after entering the season shooting 53.8 percent. Against USC, he had his first double-double of the season, giving him 15 in his career. In 2006-07, Falker was named MVC Defensive Player-of-the-Year and was third in the voting for MVC Player of the Year. He was a First-team All-MVC selection and named MVC Player-of-the-Week on Feb. 5. Falker also participated in the Pan-Am Games trials for Team USA in the summer of 2007.
